What is PlaceWise?

PlaceWise was created to support more thoughtful and place-sensitive approaches to community engagement. It includes practical resources for designing deliberative processes that begin with people’s relationships to place before moving into discussion of environmental change, shared priorities and possible responses.

PlaceWise draws on up-to-date research. The free resources on this site are based on research funded by the Australian Research Council.

The resources translate insights from this work into practical guidance for others designing community engagement processes.

About us

Common Ground Collective develops resources, methods and support for more grounded community engagement.

We are a group of researchers and practitioners interested in how people understand change through the places they know and care about, and how engagement processes can create more meaningful conversations about shared futures.

Common Ground Collective is the home of PlaceWise and may offer training, facilitation, analysis and advisory support for organisations working on environmental change, planning and community decision-making.
